Rotax HD10 V-Twin
Yeah, it roars: the 82-hp Rotax HD10 V-Twin is specifically tuned for serious work, and to be a serious companion in muddy conditions. Why? Torque. With Smart-Lok technology, the engine feels even more responsive thanks to an all-new front differential setup to get the most out of the snorkeled Rotax powerplant.
Raised CVT and engine intakes
If you’re getting air, chances are your Defender X mr is, too. With raised-to-the-roof snorkeled CVT and engine intakes, you’ll hear the roar of air rushing past and into the Rotax engine—just don’t stop until you’ve reached the other side.
Smart-Lok with MUD mode
Next-level traction, honed for mud: Smart-Lok is a true fullly lockable on-the-fly front differential with electronically-controlled automatic modes. Press a switch to use the 4WD system in Mud, Trail, or automatic. Using multiple sensors and data, Smart-Lok instantaneously engages locking with the right load at the right moment. Get maximum traction while retaining low-speed maneuverability. *Smart-Lok was developed in conjunction with TEAM Industries, a market leader in the drive train industry.
30 in. ITP Cryptid† Tires on 14 in. cast-aluminum wheels
Want a head start? These 30 in. ITP Cryptid† tires on 14 in. cast-aluminum wheels will hook up all the way from the hole shot to the moment you turn it off, whether for a blast across a mud hole or on a long-distance ride.
Fitted with arched arms, aluminum rock sliders, and mudguards, we've given added protection for obstacles and unforseen circumstances that might derail a lesser side-by-side. At speed, its improved geometry returns excellent roadholding and control.
New 7.6-inch digital gauge
This year, everything important is right before your eyes on an all-new 7.6-inch illuminated digital dash. The larger digital dashboard houses gauges and all essential functions in a clear, easy-to-read display. This also means a new keypad to ease mode selecting.
4,500-lb winch with synthetic rope
A relocated 4,500-lb (2,041 kg) winch with synthetic rope, roller fairlead and front and rear recovery anchors might seem like overkill—but when everyone’s trying to keep up with an X mr, a few are bound to get stuck. Help ’em out. And frankly, if you’re not winching…you’re not really mudding.
Usable storage where it counts
The Defender MAX X mr not only roars through mud but also has a total of up to 16.9 US gal (63.9 L)—including a handy, removable and water-resistant 1.7 gal (6.3 L) toolbox, an industry exclusive—to carry tools and supplies directly where they're needed. In addition, we included 6 gal (22.8 L) of under dash storage with an enclosed pocket, under seat storage, and enclosed storage above the gauges.
A warranty that's got your back
When you add it all up, a lower cost of ownership, easier maintenance, and 1-year warranty mean less downtime and more time behind the wheel. The Defender has an easy-to-service design and uses durable Rotax engines for a reason: they can handle the long haul.
